Meet Dr. Lacey Qureshi

My Chiropractic Story

Making the decision to become a chiropractor is easily one of the best decisions I’ve made in life. I owe it to my mother who asked me, as my mind swirled with ideas with graduation from Penn State quickly approaching, “What about chiropractic?” The moment she said it, my heart and mind simultaneously screamed “YES!”

I grew up on a farm in rural Pennsylvania, where we lived off of the land, and our meals consisted of what was in harvest. Shortly after we moved off of the farm, when I was 12 years old, I had my first real “health problem.” I developed severe lower abdominal pain upon eating. My mom took me to a medical doctor who prescribed Prilosec and Prozac. She told me the Prilosec was to help my acid reflux, and Prozac was to help regulate my mood. Even at the age of 12, my mind was conflicted. I knew I didn’t have heartburn or depression. However; I did what I was told and took the medication. A few months went by with no relief and no changes.

One day, after a follow-up with the medical doctor who insisted I stay on the medication despite it not working, I went to my mom’s chiropractor with her. I remember feeling very frustrated leaving that doctor’s appointment and was voicing my opinion to my mom in the room when the chiropractor walked in. He said that he couldn’t help but overhear and would be happy to see if he could help. He informed me that he practiced clinical nutrition and explained how my spine and nervous system control digestion. Then he asked the million dollar question that everyone else overlooked. “Didn’t you guys move off of the farm a few months ago? Have you been eating store-bought food?” This was it! My body couldn’t adapt to the chemicals, hormones, and steroids that were added to the food!

He put me on an elimination diet and gave me a few supplements. I stopped taking the medication, and within a matter of months, I was completely healed. We slowly introduced foods into my system to teach my body how to process them, and I felt better than ever. After being adjusted regularly, my body was able to adapt to the additives in store-bought food.

If I wouldn’t have been with my mom at the chiropractor that day, my life would have gone in a much different direction. An anti-depressant was prescribed to my developing child mind that would have interfered with proper neurological development. An antacid was prescribed that would have changed the pH in my stomach and made proteins less absorbable causing a whole array of problems long-term. The damaging consequences would have been a laundry list, and I truly believe in my heart that I would not have thrived in life as I did if I would have taken the medical approach.

I truly believe my mom’s chiropractor saved me, and being a chiropractor today gives me the opportunity to educate families on alternative approaches and save them. Every day I have the opportunity to give people alternatives to taking a medication that’s going to interfere with the body’s natural physiology. I believe that modern medicine has its place, but why not use lifestyle changes as the first attempt at health? Why not educate the public that their bodies have a miraculous, God-given gift of inborn intelligence to self-regulate and self-heal?

I am a living example of how truly powerful the body is in healing itself if the nervous system is free of stress and able to adapt to environmental conditions My goal is to relay this message to as many people as possible so that they can choose chiropractic as their first choice in healthcare matters.

People hurt not only on a physical level but on a mental one too, due to the emotional stresses of life. Healing needs to take place at all levels so that they can become the best versions of themselves.
